However, over time bacteria can evolve to become resistant to some antibiotics, making them less effective. The more we use antibiotics then the more quickly bacteria may adapt.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s difficult to develop new antibiotics and the process can take many years. This means that we need to take care to safeguard the drugs we already have and help prevent bacteria from developing antibiotic resistance.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Antibiotic resistance is a global <\/strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.onehealthglobal.net\/what-is-one-health\/\"><strong>One Health<\/strong><\/a><strong> concern for People, Planet and Pets \u2013 it can affect all aspects of life on Earth.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<h2><strong>So what can we do about it?<\/strong><\/h2>\n<h3><strong>What are we doing at 608 Vets in Solihull?<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>The work we all do here in Solihull can have global implications. Our vets at 608 Vets are working hard to safeguard antibiotics for the future. They may do this by:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>prescribing antibiotics only when necessary<\/li>\n<li>advising a narrow treatment spectrum<\/li>\n<li>offering alternative treatment options<\/li>\n<li>discussing the importance of using antibiotics responsibly.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><strong>What can you do as a pet owner?<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Your vet\u2019s main priority will always be the health and welfare of your pet. Don\u2019t worry &#8211; if your pet does need antibiotics then your vet will still prescribe them. After an appointment at 608 Vets, please make sure you follow your vet\u2019s advice and instructions carefully.<\/p>\n<p>If you ever find yourself with unused veterinary medication that you no longer need, <strong>please return it to us<\/strong>.
